TATTOO CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • (If Not Using a Recovery Derm Bandage)

    After removing the bandage:

    • Wash your hands thoroughly.

    • Gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap.

    • Pat dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub.

Apply a Thin Layer of Aftercare Ointment

    • Use a fragrance-free product such as:

      • Aquaphor

      • A tattoo-specific balm (e.g., Hustle Butter, Tattoo Goo)

    • Apply a very thin layer 2–3 times per day for the first 3–5 days.

    • After that, switch to a fragrance-free lotion (like Lubriderm or Aveeno) and continue using it for 2–3 weeks.

    • No scratching or picking — it will scab and flake as it heals. Let it peel naturally.

    • No soaking — avoid baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, and oceans for at least 2–3 weeks.

    • No direct sunlight.

    • No tight or dirty clothing — wear loose, clean clothes to avoid rubbing and bacteria.

Pre-Visit Suggestions

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Come well-rested. Being tired can increase your sensitivity to pain and stress your body.

Eat a Full Meal

  • Eat a solid meal 1–2 hours before your appointment, ideally something high in protein and carbs.

  • Don’t come in hungry or on an empty stomach (it can cause dizziness, nausea, or even fainting.)

Avoid Alcohol and Drugs

No alcohol or drugs 24 hours before your session. They can:

  • Thin your blood (which can affect healing and ink retention)

  • Increase bleeding

  • Make you more anxious or fidgety

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water the day before and the day of your appointment.

Moisturize the Area in the Days Leading Up

Keep the skin in good condition with a fragrance-free lotion starting a few days before.

Wear Comfortable, Loose-Fitting Clothing

  • Wear something that gives easy access to the tattoo area.

  • Don’t wear anything you mind getting ink on — it might stain.

Arrive on Time (Not Too Early or Late)

  • Being punctual helps your artist stay on schedule and reduces your own anxiety.

  • Arriving too early might not speed things up, especially if your artist is finishing another client.
